About the Role
You will be part of the Health Ageing and Rehabilitation (HAR) service, situated in the Specialist Treatment Assessment and Rehabilitation (STAR) Centre at Palmerston North Hospital.
This service includes in-patient and specialist community services from a broad interdisciplinary base.
You will work alongside physical rehabilitation service providers from the following professions: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, dietetics, nursing, social work and geriatrics.
Your role will be to provide psychological assessment and treatment for in-patients in acute rehabilitation care and for out-patient rehabilitation teams.
You will provide specialist neuropsychological assessments of cognition for in-patients and out-patients relating to cerebrovascular accidents, neurodegenerative conditions and other medical/psychological difficulties affecting cognition.
A strong interest and ability to work with a variety of health conditions and physical disabilities, neuropsychological assessment skills, dementia assessment skills and working alongside the person's whānau are key components of this role.
About you
You have a MA or doctoral level qualification in clinical psychology.
You are an empathic, motivated individual who brings strong clinical skills in assessment and treatment of people with physical rehabilitation needs resulting from illness or injury.
You recognise and effectively manage internal and external stressors.
You are self-motivated and use initiative in your work with people.
You work well within an interdisciplinary context while valuing culturally responsive practice.
You communicate clearly and build positive, respectful relationships with people, whānau and colleagues.
You bring creativity and a commitment to deliver high-quality care aligned with a strengths-based, recovery-focused approach.
You take responsibility for your own wellbeing, professional growth and engage in high standards of practice.
You are adaptable and keen to contribute to whaiora whānau-centred care, consistent with the principles of recovery and long-term wellbeing.
You understand the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and actively apply its principles to your work.

Desirable Competencies
Experience working in multi-professional team settings in the community or hospital.
Knowledge and experience in the management of chronic health conditions, including chronic pain.
Knowledge and experience in providing psychological therapy to people with disabilities.
Knowledge and experience in neuropsychology.
About the Service
In our Healthy Ageing and Rehabilitation Service you will work alongside members of the interdisciplinary team to empower whaiora to take control of their recovery and assist them towards re-engaging with their community.
Service provision stretches across the Manawatū region.
The psychology service is based at Palmerston North Hospital while also providing treatment services to the Horowhenua in-patient ward.
Service provision is for adults of all ages.
