The Partnerships and Engagement Group leads a coordinated, organisationwide approach to growing strategic partnerships and relationships in the Maritime sector and across Maritime NZ through functions including engagement, guidance, education, and communications.

The Engagement function leads engagement coordination and capabilitybuilding, including domestic and international engagement. Within this, the International Engagement function makes sure that global and Pacific engagement activity is coordinated, prioritised and aligned with organisational and regulatory outcomes.

Te tunga | The role

Maritime NZ is undergoing a period of change to strengthen its sustainability and future focus. Following an organisational redesign, we are recruiting into a number of newly shaped roles that support our shift toward more efficient, digitally enabled ways of working, helping position us for the future.

In this role, you will be focused on shaping how Maritime NZ engages internationally. You will take an organisation-wide view, guiding how we build relationships, represent Aotearoa, and contribute to international maritime outcomes. You will lead the translation of international engagement strategy into practical, well-coordinated activity, making sure that effort is prioritised, aligned and delivers real impact.

Key areas of focus include:

* Implementing and refining the organisations international engagement strategy
* Prioritising international activity to align with organisational and regulatory outcomes
* Supporting and coordinating executive-level international engagements
* Strengthening alignment across international and Pacific activity, including PMSP
* Providing strategic and operational advice on international trends, risks and opportunities
* Supporting decision-making around international travel, representation and priorities
* Developing tools, guidance and frameworks to support consistent engagement
* Building organisational capability and improving quality and impact of engagement

This role is central to ensuring Maritime NZs international engagement is purposeful, coordinated and delivers value for the organisation and the maritime system.

Nou te rourou | What you bring

You are an experienced international engagement or policy professional who can operate at both strategic and delivery levels. You bring strong judgement, political awareness and the ability to influence across complex environments.

You will bring:

* Experience in international engagement, policy, diplomacy or a related field
* Proven ability to translate strategy into practical delivery and outcomes
* Experience coordinating executive-level engagement and representation
* Strong understanding of working across complex, multi-stakeholder environments
* Experience advising senior leaders on international issues and opportunities
* Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
* Highly developed communication skills, including briefing and messaging
* Ability to prioritise competing demands and operate with sound judgement
* A collaborative, outcomes-focused approach

Salary range $140,735 - $171,946 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
