Full-time
KoBold Metals
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and maintain foundational scientific computing libraries for mineral exploration analyses.
- Integrate third-party and domain-specific tooling into coherent, repeatable pipelines across heterogeneous systems.
- Build machine-learning experimentation, evaluation, simulation, and production-pipeline tooling, including support for rapid prototyping in Jupyter notebooks.
- Organize models and outputs for repeatability and discoverability.
- Debug across third-party binaries, undocumented formats, external code, and deployed instrumentation.
- Apply and coach engineering best practices for robust, testable, and composable code.
- Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists, and engineers to develop KoBold’s scientific computing stack.
- Travel occasionally to exploration sites to evaluate scientific computing products and design new technologies.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer, data scientist, or ML engineer; most successful candidates will have closer to 10 years.
- Experience across many distinct technical problem types and a track record of delivering production-quality data-processing solutions or tooling with business value.
- Proficiency with foundational machine-learning concepts, including statistical, traditional, and deep-learning approaches.
- Proficiency in Python, ideally including xarray and numpy.
- Experience working with physical-world data such as measurements, scientific instrument output, imagery, or geophysical data.
- Experience visualizing scientific data for domain experts.
- Hands-on experience with hardware, flight, space, laboratory instrumentation, or field-deployed systems.
- Ability to work through novel technical problems involving complex geology, mineral exploration practices, and limited, disparate, noisy data sources.
- Ability to collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists, software engineers, operations, and other domain experts.
- Ability to take ownership of large projects, explain technical issues to non-software developers, prioritize multiple tasks independently, and work effectively in a dynamic early-stage company.
Benefits
- Full-time exempt position.
- Remote work available to candidates located anywhere in the United States or Canada.
- Occasional travel to exploration sites worldwide, approximately twice per year depending on project needs.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
