Job Title: Dairy Farm Assistant Location: West Eyreton Canterbury Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Pay Range: $26.00 - $32.00 Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week Job Purpose To assist in the daily operations of a New Zealand dairy farm, supporting the efficient care of dairy cattle, effective milking procedures, and general farm duties to ensure high animal welfare standards and farm productivity. Key Responsibilities Assist with daily milking operations (twice a day), including set-up, hygiene, and clean-down procedures Feed and monitor the health and condition of dairy cows Identify and report any signs of animal health issues or distress Operate and maintain farm machinery, including tractors, quad bikes, and milking systems Undertake general farm work such as fencing, effluent management, weed control, and pasture maintenance Maintain cleanliness and biosecurity standards in sheds and paddocks Keep accurate records as required by the Farm Manager Skills and Experience Required Previous experience on a dairy farm is preferred but not essential—training provided Ability to follow standard milking and animal husbandry procedures Familiarity with basic machinery and farm equipment operation is an advantage Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work unsupervised Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather Minimum Requirements Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week (some early mornings, weekends, and public holidays required) Must be physically fit for farm work Full or restricted driver’s licence preferred Must comply with New Zealand's health, safety, and employment laws Must meet Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) eligibility if applying from overseas Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test and have no criminal record.
